There’s one important thing to point out: the “ceramic” coating is not actually ceramic but instead a ceramic-like coating called sol-gel (short for “solution-gel”). Sol-gel coatings are silica-based.

For that reason they’re often touted as being “greener” or better for you, but neither claim has much evidence to back it up. Ceramic-coated cookware is relatively new, and there’s little research on its possible impacts on the environment or human health.

Is HexClad Safer Than Traditional Nonstick?

Based on everything we currently know, yes—HexClad cookware is considered safe to use. That doesn’t mean it’s completely risk-free (no cookware truly is), but at least you’re avoiding the more concerning chemicals like PTFE, PFAS, and PFOA.

Bottom line: HexClad’s nonstick coating is a step up in safety compared to traditional nonstick pans, especially as long as you don’t overheat the pan and avoid scratching or damaging the coating, it’s considered 100% safe for everyday cooking.
